The Government of Canada has launched the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for the academic year 2023 -24. The fellowship is open to Canadian and International researchers who have recently completed a Ph.D./health degree/Ph.D. equivalent. The Fellowship is available for a duration of 2 years. However, it is non-renewable. The benefit to the selected students is  $70,000/INR 42.97 lakh per annum. The deadline is September 20, 2023, at 20:00 (EDT). The amount of the scholarship is taxable.

Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Program Eligibility

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Program 2023-24 aims to attract the best postdoctoral talent. The goal is to develop their leadership skills and position the selected candidates for success as research leaders of tomorrow. The eligibility criteria for the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Program are as follows:

  • Must be an international student, Canadian citizen, or permanent resident of Canada
  • Additionally, the student must have an interest to research health, natural sciences, engineering, social sciences, or humanities 

Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Program Selection Process 

The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship grants are based on the individual merit of the student. Furthermore, the student’s ability to initiate a successful research-intensive career is considered. Therefore, the host institution and its alignment with the research program are important. The applicant has to complete their application in full collaboration with the proposed host institution to be eligible.

Annually, 70 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded. However, it distributed equally among the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)
