Study Abroad: Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships Open for 2024-25

Each year Swiss Confederation provides Government Excellence Scholarship to international students. The aim of the scholarship is to encourage international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and 180 other countries. The scholarship is mainly targeted at young researchers who have completed MA/Ph.D. degrees. Moreover, foreign artists holding a Masters’s degree are also eligible to apply,

Applications opened for Indian students on 2nd August 2023. The deadline for the scholarship is 10th November 2023. However, Indian students can only apply for research fellowships, Ph.D., and Post Doctoral scholarships in Switzerland. The Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) is responsible for the selection of scholarship beneficiaries. The scholarship benefit is a monthly payment of CHF 1’920 for a duration of 1 year.

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship Eligibility

The research fellowship, Ph.D., and  PostDoc scholarship are available to PG researchers in any discipline. That is, those who hold an MA degree with minimum qualification. Moreover, the international student must be willing to complete full-time research in Switzerland. The minimum eligibility requirements for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship are as follows:

  • Must have completed an MA degree before 31st July 2024
  • The applicant must be born after 31st December 1988
  • Moreover, the research proposal has to be presented within the timeframe 
  • Additionally, the student must provide a letter from the host professor. It includes a short CV as well.

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship Application 

The FCS considers applications for the scholarship on the basis of the academic profile of the student, the research capacity, and motivation. Moreover, the originality and methodological soundness of the research project, and the academic context are also taken into consideration.

Indian students can submit a scholarship application to the Embassy of Switzerland in India.
