Study Abroad: Processing Fees Increased for H1 B Visas and Student Visas in the USA

The official authorities of the US (US Citizenship and Immigration Services) have increased the fees for a few categories of visas including H1 B visas and student visas. This should not worry the candidates as this will not affect much their study abroad journey in the US. To request for processing of eligible forms Form I-907 is to be used. Under Form I-907 several other request forms are included such as Form I-129, Form I-140, Form I-765, and Form I-539. The change in fees will be effective from 26th February 2024.

The processing fees have increased from USD 1500 to USD 1685, USD 1750 to USD 1965, and USD 2500 to USD 2805. In addition to this, the candidates are required to pay the fees of Form I-907 separately otherwise this will result in the rejection of forms by the USCIS. 

Fees for Form I-209 applications for non-immigrant skilled workers such as on H1 B visas have increased by 12% to $2805. Similarly, Form I-539 for international students, spouses, and dependents of H1 B visa holders has increased to $1965 from $1750. 

After raising a request for premium processing, the USICS has guaranteed that either it will give action to the case within the mentioned timeframe given below or else it will return the processing fees:

• 15 days for most types of visas
• 30 calendar days for Form I-765 & Form I-539
• 45 calendar days for Form I-140 and Form I-140 

There may be annual numeric restrictions for visas such as H-1B, H-2B, and certain classifications of H-3 Visas.
