The following are the requirements for a Lithuania student visa. You need to meet these requirements for the visa processing. The Lithuania student visa processing time is from 15-45 days.

  • You must have a valid travel document. The travel document must be valid for 3 months longer than the requested validity period. The travel document such as a passport must contain 2 blank pages, and must be issued within the last 10 years.
  • One colour photo with a white background taken within the last 6 months 
  • A mediation letter electronically submitted by a higher school 
  • Proof that you have sufficient funds, You need to have a minimum amount of 40 EUR per day and funds for return. Additional fee payment of EUR 60 must be paid 
  • Proof of health insurance of at least EUR 30,000

Requirements for a Lithuania Temporary Residence Permit 

The following documents are required for a Lithuania Temporary Residence Permit. The application form can be downloaded from the official website.

  • Valid travel documents (for example, a passport) and 1 colour photograph
  • Documents that you have sufficient funds for the duration of your stay
  • Application submitted through MIGRIS
  • Proof of health insurance, and payment of visa fees
  • Police clearance certificate from the home country

The application process for the Lithuania student visa is as follows: 

  • First, receive an offer letter from a recognised university in Lithuania 
  • Next, schedule an appointment with an embassy or a consulate in Lithuania. 
  • Fill out the visa application form and submit the essential documents.
  • Attend the visa appointment in person, and pay the visa application fees 
  • Next, the Lithuania student visa processing will take place. The Lithuania student visa processing time is around 15-45 days.
  • When you receive the visa, you become eligible to register for a temporary residence permit 
  • You can register for the residence permit through the e Lithuanian Migration Information System (MIGRIS). 
  • Present the documents needed for a residence permit at a Lithuanian embassy in the home country. You must submit the documents within 4 months of electronic registration.

The family members from the EU, EEA, or EFTA are allowed to join without a visa for 90 days. To stay longer, the dependents will have to seek permission and obtain the Minister of the Interior’s official certificate. 

On the other hand, family members of non-U citizens will have to apply for a tourist visa or a short-term visa separately. Later on, they can apply for a temporary residence permit if they want to accompany you during your stay in Lithuania.

Working with a Lithuania Student Visa 

Once the Lithuania student visa processing time is complete and you have obtained the visa, you are allowed to work. You can work for a total of 20 hours per week (part-time). You can also work full-time in Lithuania during the university holidays. The permissions for the same are automatically given when obtaining a student visa. There is no need to apply separately.

For example, if your application has been rejected due to insufficient documentation ensure that you have sufficient documentation before reapplying.
  • Appeal: You can appeal against the visa refusal decision. That is if you feel the decision has been unfair. The application for the appeal must be within 14 days of receiving a refusal letter from the embassy or consulate.
