  • A PhD student 
  • A student enrolled in a higher educational programme in Denmark

Denmark Job seeker visa is available to applicants holding a residence permit under the following schemes/work visas:

Fast Track Scheme’s pay limit trackIs granted to applicants with a job offer with a high salary (annual salary of at least DKK 487,000)
Fast Track Scheme’s researcher track Is granted to researchers with a high salary. The salary must meet Danish standards.
Fast Track Scheme’s educational trackIs granted to highly qualified non-EU nationals with work experience within a specific professional field. The salary offered must meet Danish standards 

If you fall under this category, and you have lost your job due to no fault of yours (For example, cutbacks) you can apply for a residence permit for 6 months to search for a job. During this period you can seek a new job, and upon getting employment apply for a work permit or a new residence permit. You can start working as soon as you have submitted your application. No need to wait for the decision from the SIRI.

Conditions 

The conditions for obtaining a Denmark Job Seeker Visa for employees are as follows:

  • You must have lost your job due to no fault of yours 
  • You must apply for a job seeker visa within 2 days after the termination of your employment.
  • Submit the ‘letter of dismissal’ and other documents to demonstrate the reason for unemployment.
  • Pay the visa application fee
  • Be able to financially support yourself. You must also not receive any social security benefits.

Denmark Job Seeker Visa for Educational Purpsoe 

Those who have completed higher education in Denmark or have a PhD degree can apply for the job seeker permit. This permit is given either for 6 months or for 3 years. During this time you can seek employment. 

After completing your studies in Denmark you must receive a residence permit extension for seeking jobs. Otherwise, you need to apply for a job seeker visa. The visa grants you the same rights to work as you had earlier on a study residence permit. For example, you can work 90 hours monthly during August, June, and July. 

Beyond 6 months or 3 years, a job seeker permit can’t be extended. Therefore, once you get a job apply for a new work permit or residence permit.

Conditions 

The conditions for obtaining a job seeker visa for students are as follows:

  • For 6 months: You must have completed your studies from a higher education institution in any of the following levels-Professional bachelor’s degree, Academy Profession (AP) degree, a Bachelor’s degree, or a Master’s degree.
  • For 3 years: Must have a valid residence permit based on your course of study. Moreover, there must be less than 4 months for the permit to expire. Furthermore, you must have completed your studies at an approved Danish educational institution. You must have undertaken your studies in a Professional bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, Bachelor’s degree, or a PhD degree.

Denmark Job Seeker Visa for Authorisation Scheme Applicants 

Those who have obtained a Denmark Authorisation can also be given a 6-month permit. During these 6 months, such applicants can look for employment.

The job seeker permits for different professionals are as follows:

  • Healthcare Professionals including Nurses: A job-seeking permit is given with a 1st time permit. This is not applicable if your residence permit is shortened.
  • Dentists and Doctors: A residence permit can be extended and a job permit will be issued for 6 months. That is, a job-seeking permit will give you an extension over the regular 5-year residence permit period.

Those who do not have a job permit, need to apply for the same.

Conditions 

The conditions of a job permit under the Denmark Authorisation Scheme are as follows:

  • You must have a residence permit to obtain a Danish authorisation 
  • After receiving Danish authorisation you can receive a job search permit. The permit will be conditional. 

It is possible to extend your residence permit (if you haven’t obtained the work authorization) and your residence permit is about to expire.

How to Apply for a Denmark Job Seeker Visa?

In case, you already haven’t received a job seeker permit, you can apply for the same. The application process is provided below:

  • Visit the SIRI website
  • On the front page select the option;’ You want to apply now and go to the study or work authorization page 
  • However, to receive a job permit as an employee, you need to click on the option ‘your situation is changing’, go to the work page, and click on the employment page option.
  • Read the conditions and ensure you meet the same
  • Click on the ‘want to apply’ sector and create a case order ID
  • Pay the vis application fee, and gather the necessary documents
  • Fill out the visa application form and submit the same in the  SIRI’s branch offices in Odense, Aarhus, Copenhagen, Aalborg, Sønderborg Esbjerg, or Bornholm.
  • Submit the biometric information, and receive an answer regarding the outcome of your application.
