What are Conjunctions?

Conjunctions are parts of speech that are used to connect phrases, clauses and objects. They are also termed ‘connectors’ as they are used in sentences to make connections. They are usually found in the latter part of the sentence. They allow one to form complex sentences by avoiding multiple short sentences.

Incorrect: I work quick and careful. [ ❌]

Correct: I work quickly and carefully. [✅ ]

Types of Conjunctions

Conjunctions are of three types. Let’s take a look at each one of them:

  • Coordinating Conjunctions
  • Subordinating Conjunctions
  • Correlative Conjunctions
