Conjunctions, also known as connecting words are used in sentences. They are used to form complex sentences. Conjunctions are of three types, which include, coordinating, subordinating and correlative. What are Conjunctions?

Conjunctions are words that are used to connect words, clauses and phrases, within a sentence. They can also be known as connectors as they are used in sentences to form a meaningful sentence. They are usually found in the latter part of the sentence. 

Types of Conjunctions

Conjunctions are of three types. Let’s take a look to understand each one of them. 

• Coordinating Conjunctions: These conjunctions are used to combine two independent clauses. Example: nor, are for, yet, so, or etc.

• Subordinating Conjunctions: These are used to combine an independent clause and a dependent clause. Example: if, although, after, before, though, unless, until, while, as if, because etc. 

• Correlative Conjunctions: In this, two phrases are combined or in parts of speech that have an equally important within that sentence. Example: but also, either, rather, or, if, then, not only etc.
