About Guru Gobind Singh Ji
Guru Gobind Singh Ji is the last and the tenth Guru of the Sikh community who devoted his life to the freedom of his religion. He was a poet, warrior, and philosopher who was born on 16 December 1666 in Patna Bihar, in the Sodhi Clan of the Punjabi Khatri family.
He was the son of the ninth Sikh Guru, Guru Teg Bahadur and Mata Gujri. In 1675, only at the age of 9, he became the leader of the Sikh community after the death of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. His father was executed by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

Significance of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti
Guru Gobind Singh Ji is the symbol of strength and devotion. He fought relentlessly to safeguard his community and the Sikh religion. Guru Gobind Singh fought 21 battles against the Mughal Empire and the kings of Siwalik Hills. He dedicated his entire life to preaching for peace, justice, and equality.
He formed the Khalsa community that fought for preserving and safeguarding their religion from Mughal invasion.
One of the most heartbreaking battles fought by him and his sons was the Battle of Chamkaur which is also known as the Second Battle of Chamkaur or Battle of Chamkaur Sahib. That battle was fought between the Khalsa community and the Mughal forces led by Wazir Khan.
Guru Gobind Singh lost his sons in the battle of Chamkaur.
He does not believe in superstitious beliefs and has faith in only one God. His followers still follow the 5 K’s – Kanga (Comb), Kesh (Uncut Hair), Kacchera (undergarment), Kara (Bracelet), and Kripan (Sword). Every Sikh has the ritual to keep these five things with him/her.
He also asked his followers and the entire Sikh Community to consider Guru Granth Sahi as the sacred holy text of Sikhism. All his contributions are remembered on the occasion of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti.

How is Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti Celebrated?
Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti is celebrated with great pomp, especially in Punjab. People pray for the prosperity of their fellow beings and do charity. Apart from this, hymns, and Guru Granth Sahib path is also done in Gurudwaras. Gurudwara also conducts reading and listening sessions of Guru Gobind Singh Ji’s poetries. Langar is also served in Gurudwaras.
