Antyodaya Diwas also known as “Deendayal Upadhyaya Antyodaya Diwas” was ascertained on 25 September in India. This day is celebrated every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of prominent leader Hon’ble Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. He was a journalist, communist, philosopher, economist, social worker, and political leader in Bhartiya Jana Sangh a precursor to the BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party). History of Antyodaya Diwas 2023

Pandit Deendayal Upadhaya was born in 1916 on 25 Septemeber in Mathura. He devoted his life as a political leader in Bhartiya Jana Sangh to the upliftment of poor people in society.

He is also known for his commendable work philosophy “Integral Humanism”.

In 2014, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi who belongs to the Bhartiya Janata Party recognized the efforts laid down by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. He announced 25 September as the National Holiday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Deendayal Upadhyaya. This day is referred to as Antyodaya Diwas. 

The term Antyodaya means “welfare of the weakest” or “upliftment of the last person”. His ideology lies on the same principle.

The leader died in 1968 near Mughalsarai Railway Junction which was renamed by the Government of UP in 2018 as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction.

On 25 September 2014, the first Antyodaya Diwas was celebrated. The Ministry of Rural Development of India celebrated this day by relaunching its already existing skill development program Aajeevika Skills as the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). Later in 2015, the NRLM scheme was renamed Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana.

• The Antyodaya Diwas is celebrated every year to spread awareness and inspire people to make efforts to uplift the weakest in society.
• The government of India, as well as NGOs, and private organizations, conducts cultural events for the betterment of mankind. 
• Organizations conduct blood donation camps, seminars, etc. in the world to spread awareness among the youth. You can also contribute your part in such events or conduct events on your own. 
• When every section of society walks hand-in-hand, then only the country can grow as a whole. This day carries forward the ideology of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya of Integral HUmanism, which emphasizes an individual’s desire to serve their country as a corporate entity. 
• As an individual, you can also play a major part in carrying forward the thinking of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya to serve for the welfare of the weakest by donating food, clothes, or necessary items to the needy.
