History of Antyodaya Diwas 2023
Pandit Deendayal Upadhaya was born in 1916 on 25 Septemeber in Mathura. He devoted his life as a political leader in Bhartiya Jana Sangh to the upliftment of poor people in society.
He is also known for his commendable work philosophy “Integral Humanism”.
In 2014, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi who belongs to the Bhartiya Janata Party recognized the efforts laid down by Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. He announced 25 September as the National Holiday to commemorate the birth anniversary of Deendayal Upadhyaya. This day is referred to as Antyodaya Diwas.
The term Antyodaya means “welfare of the weakest” or “upliftment of the last person”. His ideology lies on the same principle.
The leader died in 1968 near Mughalsarai Railway Junction which was renamed by the Government of UP in 2018 as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction.
On 25 September 2014, the first Antyodaya Diwas was celebrated. The Ministry of Rural Development of India celebrated this day by relaunching its already existing skill development program Aajeevika Skills as the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM). Later in 2015, the NRLM scheme was renamed Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana.
