‘Good morning respected teachers and fellow students. Today, I stand before you to present my World Health Day Speech. World Health Day is a global health event annually organised by the World Health Organisation. In the wake of COVID-19, increasing disease problems, lack of nutritional food, and many more, international organisations and governments have called for an urgent need to improve medical and healthcare facilities.’
‘The first World Health Day was observed in 1948. Every year, the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Pan-American Health Organisation (PAHO) select a theme related to public health concerns. Health and medical professionals are encouraged to participate in World Health Day events to raise awareness of common diseases and health problems.’
Table of Contents
‘The World Health Day 2024 theme is ‘My health, my right.’ This theme is selected to advocate for the entitlement of all individuals, regardless of their location, to access high-quality healthcare services, education, and information. It also emphasises the importance of access to safe drinking water, unpolluted air, nutritious food, satisfactory housing, fair employment opportunities, favourable environmental conditions, and the absence of discrimination.’
‘What is the definition of Health? What makes you a healthy person? Do you have any health issues? How many times a month do you visit a doctor? These are some basic questions we all must ask ourselves to understand what World Health Day is about.’
‘According to the World Health Organisation, ‘Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.’ I believe that a person who eats healthy food, drinks an adequate amount of water, regularly exercises and gets proper sleep is considered a healthy person.’
We all want to live a healthy life, but it is not easy. It requires discipline and dedication. There are two causes of health deterioration: unhealthy eating and a polluted environment. Today, the entire world is breathing polluted air, drinking polluted water, and living in stressful conditions, and overcrowded environments. How can we stay healthy when we are compromising our natural health?
In this aspect, World Health Day provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our health and common health-related problems facing society. Only if we are physically and mentally fit, can we work productively and create a disease-free world.
Thank you.!
