All TIFR Admission require entrance through a written exam, i.e., the TIFR GS entrance exam and an interview with the university. The session for the TIFR GS paper will start in August 2024. The Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in Mumbai offers Ph.D. and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes in several disciplines, such as mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, and biology.

Only the top 1.5% of applicants are chosen each year for TIFR Admission; final selection is solely based on merit. For admission to the PhD programme, TIFR also accepts results from national entrance exams like the NET, JRF, JEST, or GATE. The written exam is not required of these candidates.

TIFR is now accepting applications for the Ph.D. in Systems Science. On the university’s official website, candidates with valid GATE exam results can submit an online application. The list of interview candidates for the PhD and Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. programmes has also been made public by TIFR. Candidates can verify this by going to the university’s official website.

TIFR Admission Process

To secure admission at Tata Institute of Fundamental Resources, you need to crack the entrance exam conducted by the university, i.e. TIFS GS paper or the national entrance examinations like:

If you want TIFR admission in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Computer Science, and Mathematics, then you also need to go through the written tests. Although there is a separate entrance examination for students who want to get into the field of education. 

The Joint Graduate Admission Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences is the TIFR Mumbai Biology entrance test, which is known as JGEEBILS. 

The last step in TIFR Admission, is when you clear the exams is to clear interview. Further, when you are finally selected y the board, you have to present a letter of recommendation, given by two teachers. It highly depends on the type of course you are applying for.

Steps Wise Process to Apply For TIFR Courses

You need to follow the given steps to apply for the PG and PhD courses to get TIFR admission.

  • Go to the TIFR official website and click the “Apply Online” tab.
  • Here, enter a personal email ID.
  • You will receive an SMS and an email with the login information.
  • Now, click the “Go to Application” Link. 
  • Then follow the instructions to finish the application form.
  • The non-refundable registration fee for men is INR 1200, and for women is INR 600.
  • You can pay fees through Internet Banking, Credit Card or Debit card, UPI, or other.
  • After that, use your application sequence number as your User ID to log in to your account to check the progress of payment.
  • On payment completion, an automatic confirmation email will be sent to you.
  • Finally, print out the TIFR Mumbai application form for future reference.

You need to keep the following documents handy with you while applying for courses to get TIFR Admission:

  • Driver’s License
  • Two recent pass-port-size photographs.
  • 10th and 12th grade level Marksheet.
  • Graduation Marksheet.
  • Scanned copy of the recent photographs.

Scholarships and Financial Aid

Tata Institute of Fundamental Research offers multiple scholarships to students to help them continue their studies or get TIFR admission. They can avail the benefit of the scholarship before and after they start the PhD program. You get an average monthly fellowship of INR 21,000. To get this scholarship, you must meet the requirements and the eligibility criteria of the same.
