The Indian Law Institute conducts an annual entrance examination for admission to its 1 year LLM course. This examination is the Indian Law Institute Common Entrance Test (ILICAT). 

The official dates for ILICAT 2023 are yet to be notified by the conducting body. Candidates can enrol themselves for the exam online. Candidates who have completed their graduation or are in the final year of graduation (3-year or 5-year LLB course) are eligible to appear for the ILICAT exam 2023.

ILICAT Counselling Process 2023

The counselling session is the final stage of the admission procedure for LLM in The Indian Law Institute. Candidates who will be shortlisted for the ILICAT exam will then be called for a viva-voce. It is important to note that the counselling will only be conducted offline (in person).

Candidates are also advised to acquaint themselves with the weightage associated with each round of the selection process in order to be well prepared. The breakdown of the weightage is discussed in the table below:

The candidates will be selected as per a merit list based on the performance of the candidates in the above-noted components.

ILICAT Exam 2023 Tie-Break Rules 

Since the selection process of ILICAT is mark-based, there is a possibility of two or more candidates securing the same scores which may cause confusion in the selection process. Accordingly, in order to avoid such confusion from arising, the conducting body has notified tie-break rules which are as follows:

  • In case of a tie, candidates who secure more marks in the legal writing section and the viva put together will be ranked higher.
  • In case the scores between the contesting candidates are still tied, the candidate who scored more in the legal writing section will be ranked higher. 

ILICAT Counselling 2023 Important Documents

Once the candidate has qualified for the ILICAT exam 2023 and reaches the stage of the counselling session, there is a list of specific documents that a candidate needs to carry to the venue of counselling for verification by the official authority. The list of documents is noted below to allow candidates to gather these documents well in advance:

  1. Passport photographs
  2. Marksheet of class 10th
  3. Marksheet and passing certificate of class 12th
  4. Graduation degree from a government-recognised institution/university or recognised by the Bar Council of India (BCI)
  5. Admit card of the ILICAT 2023
  6. Valid scorecard of ILICAT 2023
  7. A copy of the application/registration form of the ILICAT 2023
  8. Caste certificate (if applicable)
  9. Specially-abled certificate (if applicable)
