What are the Eligibility Criteria for UGC Net?
To become eligible for the UGC Net examination, you must meet the two main eligibility criteria points, i.e., education and age, as stated below.
- Education: You must have a Master’s degree with good marks.
- Minimum marks: 55% (or 50% if you belong to a reserved category) from a recognised university.
- Age: It depends on what you’re applying for (JRF or Assistant Professor):
- JRF (Junior Research Fellowship): You can’t be older than 30.
- Assistant Professor: Age doesn’t matter here, you can apply anytime!

Yes, you can take the exam in two subjects, but not in the same cycle. Each year, the NTA NET Exam is conducted twice, in June and December. Candidates can choose one subject for the June cycle and another subject for the December cycle.
For example, if a candidate holds both a Master’s degree in English (MA English) and a Master’s degree in Sociology (MA Sociology), she or he may apply for the NTA NET exam in both English and Sociology in different cycles
