Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj founded the Maratha Empire in the western India. He is regarded as a great warrior of all times, his skills on the field and strength let him increase his empire with every battle he fought. He majorly won all the battles, however there was this one time when he lost. In March 1657, Shivaji Maharaj launched a raid in the Mughal empire, around Ahmednagar. Treaty of Purandar
In the year 1665, the tension between the Mughals and Shivaji continued. The forces of Jai Singh, hired by the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, tried to press Shivaji and vice versa. Jai Singh used his wisdom to win over the Maratha emperor. He asked the latter’s nobles to come to his side in return for the slight parts of the Bijapur Sultanate. Later, he besieged Puranadar fort, which is when Shivaji, the Maratha emperor, had to release 23 of his 36 forts to Jai Singh, under the treaty of Purandar. It was the only defeat of Shivaji Maharaj.
