There are 28 states and 8 Union Territories in India. All 28 states are administered by their own separate government. They all have their each judicial, administrative, and legislative centres. The one in charge of the state is the Cheif Minister of that specific state. The most recent inclusion of a state to this list was made by Telangana, in 2014; and in the case of union territories, it was Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, in 2019.
