What is the Full Form of SEBC?

The full form of SEBC is Socially and Educational Backward Classes. The phrase “Other Backward Class” is used by the Indian government to describe castes that are academically or socially disadvantaged. Along with Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and General Classes, it is one of India’s official population classifications. According to the Mandal Commission research from 1980, OBCs made up 55% of the country’s population, and the National Sample Survey Organisation found that they made up 41% in 2006. 

What are the Socially and Educational Backward Classes?

SEBC is an adjective that refers to the economically and socially disadvantaged classes. It is another word for those who belong to castes considered backwards by the government.

According to the Central Government of India, some citizens of our country are classed as living below the poverty line based on their financial position and way of life. Because the Indian government prioritises social and educational development, other backward services receive 27% reservations in state and central government positions, education, and other areas.  They are called SEBC people (Socially and Educationally Backward Classes). 

The formation of the SEBC in 1979 resulted in substantial changes. The “Socially and Educationally Backward Classes Commission” was formed to aid India’s educationally, socially, and monetarily disadvantaged sections. Other states, such as Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra, have varied SEBC percentages. In Tamil Nadu, for example, the SEBC population has increased to 20%; in Maharashtra, it is 20%. According to official documentation, all those whose income or total family income is less than 8 lakh per annum are meant to be in the OBC and SEBC sectors of the nation’s financially vulnerable groups in 2019.
