What is the Full Form of CID?

The full form of CID stands for Crime Investigation Department. CID is part of the Indian State Police’s criminal investigation division. It is a branch of the police force, and the Additional Police Director General is in charge of it. The CID headquarters is located in Pune, and the Indian government and the DGP suggest particular cases to the government for handling. The British government established CID in 1902 to maintain social order. 

In 1929, this Police Force was reorganized into CID, Crime Branch CID, and special units. Riot, forgery, murder, counterfeiting, and cases referred by the state’s High Court or local government are all investigated in this section.

What Does CID Do?

The CID’s major role is to investigate and handle criminal cases such as murder, theft, rape, robbery, and so on.  It collects facts and evidence for fraud and criminal cases, apprehends criminals, and finally delivers evidence to the accused in court. These investigations might include multiple cities and states, depending on the nature of the offense. The CID team collaborates with local police to investigate the cases.

The following are the eligibility criteria for being admitted to the department:

• Must be a citizen of India
• Degree from a respected college or university
• 12th or Higher Secondary Certificate
• Must also pass the Indian Civil Services Exam
• Applicant must have a keen eye for detail
• Moral rectitude, memory, group management abilities, and one-handedness are all required
