CSK, or Chennai Super Kings, is based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. It was named to honor the rulers of the Tamil Empire. The home ground of Chennai Super Kings is M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, located in Chennai. Interestingly, this stadium, previously known as Madras Cricket Club Ground, was named after the former President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

The Indian Premiere League was established in 2008 with the inauguration match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore.
