What is Hung Parliament in India?

A Hung Parliament in India happens when no single party or group wins most of the seats in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament. Furthermore, this means no party or group has enough seats to make a Government alone. Therefore, to make a stable government, they have to talk, make deals, and form coalitions or alliances with each other. What Happens when there is a Hung Parliament?

When India has a Hung Parliament the formation of a Government becomes tough.

• Smaller parties and independent candidates become important because their support can help one Coalition win.

Furthermore, creating a Coalition Government means making a Common Minimum Program (CMP).

First Hung Parliament in India
