In 1855 AT&T became a subsidiary of this company, and the long-distance telephone network was established. In 1889, AT &T acquired became the parent company. Later, the company launched services like the submarine cable service to extend its services to Europe, the first Transpacific cable service. 

The company became a monopoly and was later split into smaller divisions. In 2005, SBC Communications Inc. acquired the former parent company,. Therefore, AT&T Corp, and became AT&T Inc.
