Uzhhorod National University was established in 1945 in Uzhhorod, Ukraine. Started as a Uzhhorod State University, it was founded in accordance with the Joint Resolution of Council of People's Commissars of Ukrainian SSR and Central Committee of Communist Party of Ukrainian SSR. The resolution stated that due to considerable demand of cultural upbringing in Transcarpathian Ukraine and the solicitude of the Council of Transcarpathian Ukraine, Council of National Commissars of Ukrainian SSR and Central Committee of Ukrainian Communist Party decided to open in 1945 State University in Uzhhorod with the following faculties: history, philology, biology, medicine”. The university started with 168 students, 42 academic staff members and faculties of History, Philology, Biology and Medical. After the fall of the USSR, the university’s name was changed to Uzhhorod National University. Today, Uzhhorod National University has 20 faculties and colleges including Faculty of Geography, Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Mathematics, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine ?2, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Healthcare and Physical Education, Faculty of Foreign Philology, Faculty of Information Technologies Faculty of History and International Relations, Faculty of International Economic Relations, Faculty of Postgraduate and Pre-university Education, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Tourism and International Communication, Faculty of Physics, Faculty of Philology, Faculty of Chemistry, Faculty of Law, Ukrainian-Hungarian Educational Institute, Natural sciences and Humanities college and Department of Military Training. It offers more than 90 programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level in Law, Social sciences, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Medicine history, Philology, Stomatology, Engineering, Geography, Physical Education and Sport, Foreign Languages and Computer Technologies. Not just this, Uzhhorod National University also has over 25 research institutes, centers and labs which help students to enhance their research skills by undertaking a research study under guidance. Today, Uzhhorod National University has one big campus located in 3 Narodna Square, Uzhhorod, Ukraine and it is known for its beautiful nature and scenic location. The campus has 4 museums, Botanical Gardens and a vivarium, the sanatorium-dispensary "Skalka", the social-psychological service, a scientific library, the centre of student leisure "Juventus", the sport complex, the alpine skiing base "Plishka" and the Alpine (high-mountain) biological base "Kolochava, a dental clinic, the "Hoverla" publishing house and the newspaper "Pohlyad" and a media centre. Uzhhorod National University has enrollement of over 14,000 students with the presence of more than 3,000 academic staff members. the student faculty ratio of the university stands at 1:4. According to the QS Ranking, Uzhhorod National University is ranked #231-240 in EECA University Ranking, 2019.
