Yes, we welcome undocumented students. In fact, around 1/4 of our US students are undocumented.

Q: Many programs require a much higher CGPA for admission. Why don't UoPeople?

UoPeople was founded on the conviction that education is a fundamental right that should be available to all competent individuals, not just a select few. Because everyone deserves an opportunity to improve their future, the University endeavours to open the doors of higher education to competent students from all over the world.

In an online classroom, there is always a place for everyone, and the number of students admitted into University of the People's certificate programmes is unlimited. UoPeople, on the other hand, only takes new students into its certificate programmes at this time.

Q: Who started University of the People?

University of the People was founded by Shai Reshef, the founder and president, to combine the benefits of unprecedented Internet access, falling technology prices, and rising tuition fees around the world. UoPeople is the world's first tuition-free, American-accredited online academic institution dedicated to the development and democratisation of higher education on a worldwide scale.

About the University

History, Affiliations and Rankings

Shai Reshef, an educational entrepreneur, founded University of the People in January 2009. The first UoPeople students began classes in September 2009, studying business administration and computer science for associate and bachelor's degrees. The institution had no accreditation at the time and did not charge any fees or tuition. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation awarded the University of the People a $613,282 grant in February 2012 to assist the university in achieving national accreditation. The university was approved for degree-granting programs by the Distance Education Accrediting Commission two years later (DEAC).
