Established in 1972, the University of Siegen is a public research university situated in Siegen, North Rhine-Westphalia. Later, the Pädagogische Hochschule Siegerland and Siegen-Gummersbach University of Applied Sciences which had institutions situated at Siegen and Gummersbach collaborated to establish the new Siegen comprehensive university. The University of Siegen has a partnership with the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, a society of Germany's leading research institutions.
The buildings at the University Of Siegen are situated across three core areas in Siegen (Haardter Berg hill, Emmy-Noether-Campus, and administration based at Herrengarten). There are five faculties at that institute that comes under the University of Siegen. They are the faculty of Philosophy, Faculty of Education-Architecture-Arts, Faculty of Economics-Business Informatics-Business law, Faculty of Natural Science and the Technology, and Faculty of Life Sciences. The University of Siegen houses a modernized digital library with full access to the enrolled students.
