Lehigh University, founded in 1866, is inextricably linked to the United States' rise as an industrial power. Lehigh took advantage of the opportunity to serve the "intellectual and moral improvement" of the young men of Lehigh Valley after Asa Packer, the university's founder, donated over $500,000 for its establishment. Today, it is one of the most distinguished private research universities known for its academic rigor, entrepreneurial approach and collaborative learning opportunities. It is academically affiliated with NAICU and with Space-grant colleges in the United States.
