History, Affiliations and Rankings
University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) is the third-largest co-educational public institution in the state of Oklahoma, United States. Established in the year 1890, UCO is one of the oldest higher educational institutes in the Southwestern region of the U.S. It was Oklahoma's first educational institution, with classes beginning in 1891. The institution's name was changed to Central State Normal School in 1904, then to Central State Teachers College in 1919, and finally to Central State College in 1939. The state legislature gave it the ability to issue postgraduate degrees in arts and business administration in 1971, and it was given the name Central State University as a result. In 1991, UCO changed its name to its current one. The university has academic affiliations with University Research Association, ORAU, Southern Universities Research Association, and Space-grant colleges. As per QS World University Rankings, the university is ranked #1201-1400 in QS World University Rankings 2023.
Campus, Courses and Infrastructure
UCO has a lovely campus that spans 210 acres and houses 34 state-of-the-art buildings that provide academic, administrative, recreational, and other support services to students. A wellness center, library, Y Chapel of Song, and high-tech laboratories are among the university's amenities. Three coed residence buildings on campus provide traditional-style rooms for both men and women. Up to 302 students can be accommodated in the University Suites. Apart from that, UCO offers a number of apartment complexes with four- and two-bedroom apartments, as well as a community clubhouse. It houses a student population of about 16,910 students across its 118 undergraduate and 76 graduate programs of study. UCO has six colleges. These colleges are known for offering 114 undergraduate majors and 58 postgraduate degrees. The colleges offer degrees across a wide variety of disciplines like science, liberal arts, business, mathematics, education, fine arts, professional studies, and design. UCO School of Music Jazz Division is the largest in the United States.

The college caters to the academic demands of nearly 1500 international students. With over 200 student organizations and hundreds of events, UCO makes it easy for students to find their fit.
