History, Affiliations and Rankings

Established in 1829, Rochester Institute of Technology is formerly known as Rochester Athenæum and Mechanics Institute (RAMI). In 1944 the institute's name was changed to Rochester Institute of Technology and it gained full-fledged university status. Since its establishment, the University has been driving progress in industries and communities around the world. A top National Research university, Rochester also has global campuses in China, Croatia, Dubai and Kosovo. The Institute has academic affiliations with AITU, RAC, NAIC and Space-grant. Rochester Institute of Technology ranks in the bracket #1001-1200 in QS World University Rankings and #801–1000th in World University Rankings by Times Higher Education for the year 2022.
