History, Affiliations and Rankings
On March 4, 2008, Cypress Hills College and Prairie West College announced their plan to merge into a new college called Great Plains College in Canada. The purpose of the merger was to improve and expand programmes and services for students who attend campuses from Warman to Maple Creek in western Saskatchewan. The College has also developed programmes to assist First Nations students, and it has reaffirmed a strategic partnership with the Office of the Treaty Commissioner to foster an inclusive educational environment. The College has an academic affiliation with the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC), Saskatchewan Polytechnic, University of Saskatchewan (U of S) and University of Regina (U of R), Prairie Athletic Conference (PAC). The college is ranked #239 in the country by Webometrics. The College is also among the world-renowned colleges in Canada for its excellence, impact and openness.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Kindersley, Swift Current, and Warman are the decentralised campuses, with additional programming in Biggar, Maple Creek, and Martensville. They offer a variety of post-secondary certificate, diploma, and degree programmes as well as university courses, safety training, Adult Basic Education, and English language courses at their several campuses around western Saskatchewan. International students can enrol in programmes such as Administrative Assistant, Business Diploma in Management, Continuing Care Assistant, Youth Care Worker Diploma, etc. The college provides a secure, engaging, and welcoming learning environment with small class numbers, friendly, experienced staff, and access to support.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Great Plains College is one of Saskatchewan's most innovative regional colleges. The college is dedicated to serving the needs of western Saskatchewan's students, employers, and communities. They are trying to make leaders, careers, relationships, and communities stronger. Great Plains College was the first regional college in Saskatchewan to provide its students’ health and dental coverage, and it also has one of the best scholarship programmes in the country. The College has a very strong network of alums who are making a positive impact around the globe.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
The student community at the College is truly diverse with people from all sorts of backgrounds enrolled in different programs. From luncheons, candy-grams, and holiday parties to fundraisers, random acts of kindness, and community tree plantings, the Student Associations offer events throughout the year. It's a terrific opportunity to have fun and meet new people, whether students join a Student Association and help plan events or just stop by for one of the activities. The College is deeply concerned about its graduates and works tirelessly to place them. According to a survey, 98% of Great Plains College students think the college equipped them to work in their field of study, and 75% of graduates found a job in the Great Plains College region.
