Located in Americus, Georgia, Georgia Southwestern State University is a public university. Founded in the year 1906, Georgia Southwestern University was originally named as Third District Agricultural and Mechanical School. The scenic campus is spread over 250 acres along with 18 hole golf ground. The diverse academic degrees are incorporated in 4 schools namely- College of Arts and Science (biology, chemistry, physics geology, theatre, history, political science); College of Business and Computing; College of Education(early childhood education, health and physical education, middle grades e3ducation ,autism education endorsement) and College of Nursing and health science (nursing and health science). Basketball, Soccer, Baseball, Cross Country, Golf, Tennis are the sports offered by the University. Numerous organisations and clubs are formed by the students like history club, geology club, chemistry club, psychology club and sociology club. Along with some organisations like Association of Nursing Students (ANS) and the American Institute of Professional Geologists Student also formed and managed by students. On-campus residential facilities are available and a majority of students can be housed in the Georgia Southwestern oaks halls. The famous James Earl Carter Library holds up to 190,000 volumes. The college has accreditation from the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and schools.
