About the University

History, Affiliations and Rankings

Charles Sturt University was established in 1989 and has expanded to become a multi-campus University with locations across Australia and Canada. It was named after a British explorer, Charles Napier Sturt, who is famous for the expeditions that he made into regional New South Wales and South Australia. CSU is affiliated with the Regional Universities Network, which is a network of seven universities primarily from regional Australia. The University has, as its Mascot, Charlie the Cockatoo, primarily because the cockatoo has a home in the regional footprint of the University. It represents Charles Sturt University's values of community and adaptability across global contexts. The university has been ranked #801-1000 in the QS World University Rankings 2023. Also, according to the US News and World Report 2023, Charles Sturt has been ranked #764 in Best Global Universities.
