Established in 1994, CSU Monterey Bay (CSUMB) is the 21st campus of the California State University System. It officially started with 654 students on August 28, 1995, and is situated on the earlier U.S. Army base Fort Ord in Monterey County. California State University Monterey Bay is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. The campus is spread across 1350 acres and is equipped with the state-of-the-art facilities including residence halls, dining commons and a library. The university offers more than 23 undergraduate and 7 postgraduate degree courses along with teaching credentials. It is home to over 7,000 students and the faculty staff comprises of around 500 professors out of 163 are full-time academic staff. Further, the faculty members of CSUMB also an American Book award winner as well as six Fulbright scholars. Collaborating with Hartnell College, the university has recently created CSin3 which is a 3-year Computer Science financed partially by the Foundation of Matsui Nursery. The Monterey Bay campus houses eleven residence halls consisting of suites and apartment-sized dormitories available for local as well as international students. Further, the whole campus area is fuelled with solar energy and equipped energy-efficient lighting.
