BPP University History

BPP University, formerly known as the Business and Professional Programme, is a private university in the United Kingdom. It was founded in 1976 and has since developed into one of the largest professional education providers in Europe. This university was established as BPP Law School in London in 1976. It initially offered professional legal training to aspiring solicitors and barristers. Further, in 1992, BPP Law School became the first independent institution to be granted degree-awarding powers by the UK government, enabling it to award its own degrees. Later in 2005, BPP Law School expanded its academic offerings beyond law and introduced business and finance programs. Then, in 2007 BPP Law School became part of Apollo Global, a private equity firm. This partnership allowed BPP to further expand its educational programs and resources.

Furthermore, in 2010, BPP University College was granted full university status by the UK government, becoming BPP University College of Professional Studies. In 2013, this college changed its name to BPP University, reflecting its increased focus on a broader range of academic disciplines. Then in 2017, the university was acquired by the University of Law, another private university in the UK. This acquisition created the UK's largest provider of professional legal education. Further, in 2020, the varsity announced the closure of its law school in Holborn, London, and the consolidation of its legal education programs at other campuses.
