Bow Valley College is a board-governed public college and also acts as a community institution. The college was founded initially as Alberta Vocational Centre in 1965. However, it transitioned into an autonomous public college with a board that is regulated by a government-administered model. About 93% of Bow Valley graduates have got placed into their chosen field within 6 months of graduation. The college is subdivided into 7 specialised schools namely:

Bow Valley College offers career programs all around the year and ranging from degree programs to diplomas, certificates and post-diploma certificates. The college is also involved in providing scholarships to the financially challenged albeit deserving students. For the same, it partnered with the famous scholarship program ‘Project Hero’ which was co-founded by General (Ret’d) Rick Hillier for the fallen Canadian Force member’s family. The college also offers specialised courses as well as career counselling services.
