Applications are now open for the joint master’s programmes in data science and artificial intelligence offered by IIT Madras and the University of Birmingham. The combined programme application deadline is June 11, 2023

The universities that award a single degree to successful students will be Chennai and Birmingham. Applicants also require research project.

Today was the first day that applications for the joint master’s programme in data science and artificial intelligence offer by the Indian Institute of Technology (IT) Madras and the University of Birmingham were accepted. According to IIT Madras, this is the first time an IIT has collaborated with the UK Russell Group of Universities.

The combined programme application deadline is June 11, 2023. The universities that award a single degree to successful students will be Chennai and Birmingham. A research project will also be required of the applicants. 

Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Technology degree with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 60%. Students are also excluded from taking the IELTS, TOEFL, or PTE if they receive an English grade of at least 75% on the CISCE/CBSE and West Bengal Board in Class 12 and at least 80% on any other state board.

Students will attend the School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham and will also gain access to the IIT Madras curriculum. IIT Madras; India’s top engineering university according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

The Director of IIT Madras, Prof. V. Kamakoti, and Prof. Adam Tickell decided to start the joint masters programme during the latter’s visit to Chennai in November 2022, and a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the two in February 2023.
