Study Abroad: Oxford & Cambridge Application Deadlines in October. Here is What Officials Look for in an Application

The application deadlines for the January 2024 intake for Oxford University and Cambridge University are fast approaching. Oxford has strictly set the deadline for UCAS submission on the 16th of October 2023 till 06:00 pm according to UK time. Furthermore, the deadline to take any application tests was 29 September 2023. However, the application form requires students to attach their respective application test scores if applicable.

Cambridge University also has deadlines approaching for some of its courses on the same date. Most of the courses in this deadline are in Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science or Medicine. Clearing choices are available for the students by UCAS till 17th October 2023, 06:00 pm. Under clearing choices, students can apply for university places which are yet to be filled. Also, these applications are outside the normal application window. 

What do Admission Officials Look for in an Application?

Students applying for admissions this year must curate their application well in advance but if you haven’t submitted your application yet, here are some tips from the University of Cambridge and University of Oxford Admissions Tutor.  

• Academic potential of the student in the subject applied for at the university.
• The motivation and subject interest of the student should be reflected in the application and the personal statement.
• Admission test scores (Subject Based). These are planned to be conducted between 18th to 20th October 2023. 
• Student’s thinking process and ability to articulate ideas in the statement of interest. 
• You must display a presence of mind and have an in-depth knowledge of the subject. Moreover, you can respond to impromptu questions in this way.
• A consistent extracurricular exploration of the subject will be an added advantage. 
• Choosing a specific college will not affect the status of your application or influence the admission procedure. It is only your first preference.
