Using solar panels on campus as a main source of electricity and directing research towards attaining more sustainable goals is leading many universities back in the game.
These rankings are based on a methodology designed based on the ability of universities to battle the environmental, social and governance (ESG) challenges that the world faces today.
Roundabout 1,400 universities worldwide are featured in the QS list of Sustainable University Rankings 2024. The list of universities was released on the 5th of December 2023 on the official website of QS (Quacquarelli Symonds).

QS Sustainable University Ranking Methodology
The efforts and contributions of alumni of world universities towards the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the UN are also considered for these rankings. If you follow the achievements of foreign universities you would have seen universities promoting their research with an emphasis on sustainability factor.
This is because sustainability is considered an essential factor for the growth and development of universities and consequently the youth. There are three categories under this ranking, that is Environmental Impact, Social Impact and Governance.
Where Environmental Impact, constitutes 45% weightage Social Impact also constitutes of 45% weightage and Governance 10%. This is an overview of the ranking methodology which is otherwise quite detailed on its own.
