The High-Potential Individual (HPI visa) is a UK immigration route that is meant for students who have graduated from top global universities. The permits individuals to live and work in the country without a sponsorship or job offer. To get this visa, you must obtain a qualification equivalent to a UK bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD degree from an eligible university within the last 5 years. The UK Government releases the list of the eligible global universities. Your university must be among them.

- Besides this, you must have a balance of GBP 1,270 in your bank account for 28 consecutive days.
- If you are already in the UK, know that you cannot switch from a graduate visa.
- However, you can get this visa if you have been studying full-time for a PhD for at least 24 months, or have completed your studies in the UK.
- Know that you can only apply for this visa once in your life.

Documentation Requirements
Applications should submit their documents online in the form of a PDF along with the application form. Here’s a list of all the documents required for an HPI visa.
- A valid passport or another international travel document highlighting your identity and nationality.
- Proof of English proficiency score.
- The statement provided to you by Ecctis while verifying your qualifications.
- Applicant’s biometric residence permit (BRP)
- You will have to show online proof of your immigration status if you are switching from another visa type.
- Furthermore, if you are bringing your partner or children with you, then you must provide proof of your relationship with them.

You cannot directly go from an HPI visa to an indefinite leave to remain (ILR) in the UK. However, it is possible for you to eventually qualify for a PR. Here are some steps you can take to get the ILR or the PR in the UK.
- Switch to a long-term visa, such as a skilled worker visa, that can qualify you for a PR.
- To switch, you must have a job offer from a licensed employer in the UK. Ensure that the job you are offered provides you with the minimum salary.
- Thereafter, stay in the UK for 5 continuous years with the eligible visa to meet the duration for PR.
- Ensure that you pass the Life in the UK Test and meet English language requirements for settlement.
- After 5 years apply, ensure that you meet all other PR requirements, and apply for an ILR.
- If approved, you will get the right to stay in the UK permanently.
