What is the Republic of Mauritius Scholarship?
The Republic of Mauritius Scholarship is a fully funded program offered by the Government of Mauritius to students from the African Union (AU) and African Commonwealth countries. It is designed to support talented students who wish to pursue undergraduate, master’s, and PhD studies at Mauritian universities.
This scholarship covers tuition fees, living allowance, airfare, and health insurance, making it a complete financial support package. Types of Republic of Mauritius Scholarships
The Government of Mauritius offers fully funded scholarships under different categories so that students at various levels of study can benefit. These include:
1. Undergraduate Scholarships
- For students from eligible African countries.
- Covers tuition fees, living allowance, return airfare, and health insurance.
- Duration: 3 to 4 years, depending on the program.
2. Master’s Scholarships
- For graduates who want to pursue a postgraduate degree in Mauritius.
- Includes full tuition coverage, stipend, airfare, and medical insurance.
- Duration: 1 to 2 years.
3. PhD Scholarships

Application Procedure
African students can apply for this scholarship by filling out the application form. Section 5 of the application form is intended for the nominating agency in the country of the applicant’s citizenship, which must be completed and submitted by it.
After shortlisting and endorsement applications for a maximum of 15 eligible candidates (five in each category of Undergraduate, Master, and MPhil/PhD), the nominating Agency, which is typically a division of the Ministry of Education in the applicant’s country, will submit the duly filled-out application forms as per the table below:

Eligibility Criteria for Scholarship
The scholarship will be awarded for either the maximum duration of the course or the minimum duration of the course comparing whichever is lesser. To be able to be eligible for this scholarship, students need to have completed the following qualifications.
- Undergraduate Diploma – 3 years
- Undergraduate Degree – 4 years
- Master’s – 2 years
- M.Phil / PhD – 4 years + 6 months for the transfer from MPhil to PhD
- PhD – 3 years
Required Documents
There are certain documents that are required for the scholarship purpose, which include,
- Completed scholarship application form.
- Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts.
- Birth certificate and passport copy.
- Medical certificate (recent).
- Recommendation letters (if required).
Selection Process
According to the following criteria, the Government of Mauritius offers scholarships to deserving students who are nationals or residents of the African Union or the African Commonwealth nations. To get selected for this scholarship,
1) Candidates must be older than 18 and younger than 26 by January 1, 2026.
2) Going by the deadline of January 1, 2026, applicants for master’s programmes and PhD programmes should not have turned 35 or 40, respectively.
3) For the academic year beginning in 2026, students must have applied for a full-time on-campus programme such as a degree, PhD, Master’s or Diploma at a public higher education institution in Mauritius (specified in Section 8 of the applicable Guidelines for Applicants).

The scholarship will last for a maximum of 4 years or the minimum course duration, whichever is less. Applicants must have applied for full-time on-campus study at any public Tertiary Education Institution in Mauritius for the academic year beginning in 2023.
One male student, one female student, and one student placed highest in the science side will each receive a scholarship from the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Foundation if they want to pursue a five-year first degree in medicine.
