Types of Australia Work Visas

Australia provides different types of work visas. Below we have listed some of them.

Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa (subclass 482): 

This visa is given for up to 4 years and has three streams: The short-term stream (2 years of stay for occupations under the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL), the medium-term stream offers 4 years of stay for occupations under the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), and Labour stream allows sponsored workers to work under a labour agreement between the Australian government, and an employer.

Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189)

This visa permits the skilled workers to stay in Australia and work permanently. This visa is for those who want to work under the occupations listed on the MLTSSL. You do not need sponsorship for this visa. This visa is granted on the basis of a point system.

Skilled Nominated Visa (subclass 190)

This is a point-based visa that permits skilled workers to live and work in the country permanently. You must be nominated for this visa. The job must come under either the MLTSSL or the Regional Occupation List (ROL).

Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) Visa (subclass 186):

The Employer Nomination Scheme visa allows skilled workers to work in Australia permanently. It requires sponsorship by an approved Australian employer. There are three streams: Temporary Residence Transition, Direct Entry, and Agreement.

Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) Visa (subclass 187):

The Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa is for skilled workers. Sponsorship by an Australian employer in a specific regional area is required. The visa has 3 streams Direct Entry, Temporary Residence Transition, and Agreement.

Working Holiday Visa (subclass 417)

The Australia working holiday visa is for applicants from the age of 18 to 30 years. You can go on can extended holiday, and work part-time in Australia at the same time.

The Indian citizens are required to follow the given below requirements to get a work visa in Australia:

  • Candidates between the age of 25-32 gain more points as compared to citizens who are more than 42 years of age. 
  • Applicants will have to take the IELTS test and score at least 8 bands or more.
  • If the candidate has experience in an occupation that is listed in the skilled occupations then they will get points based on the occupation 
  • The candidate should have Australian qualification from an Australian institute 
  • The candidate must be qualified from a nominated occupation
  • The candidate is eligible to get higher points in case he has qualified for a professional degree from Australia for at least 12 months
  • Indians will be required to give the biometric details to complete the application process

Visa-Specific Australia Work Visa Requirements 

Apart from the general documents you need to submit additional documents for the visa. These are as follows:

Temporary Skill Shortage (subclass 482) visa:

Visa sponsorship documents from an employer, proof of Labour Market Testing (LMT), and training benchmarks if the Australian business is the sponsoring employer.

Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa:

Submit the nomination approval letter. This must provided by the employer. Other than this, you need to submit proof that the nominated position is available and is genuine. You also need to submit proof that the salary offered meets the market salary requirements.

Skilled Independent (subclass 189) visa:

Submit proof of skill assessment conducted. You also need to submit documents related to the recent work experience, points test result, and Expression of Interest (EOI) reference number.

Skilled Nominated (subclass 190) visa:

Submit proof that you have been nominated by an Australian territory government or state. You also need to provide the nomination approval letter. Aside from that, you need to submit proof that you are committing to living and working in the territory or state that has nominated you.
