World Thrift Day also known by the name World Savings Day is observed on 30th October. This day was first established in the year 1924 during the first International Savings Bank Congress. On the last day of the Congress, Filippo Ravizza, an Italian professor announced this day as ‘International Savings Day’. Ever since then, Congress decided to make this day to promote savings all across the globe.
The main aim behind this day is to encourage people to save money and make people confident about banks, the authority of which had been lost after the First World War, back then.
To make this day popular, people and students were taught about this in schools, offices and organisations. This concept later gained popularity during the Second World War.
