Ganesh Visarjan is one of the most famous festivals in Maharashtra across India. On this day,  the devotees immerse the idols of Lord Ganesha in the water. This happens after the idol is kept at home for 10 consecutive days. Till then, the devotees keep the idol at their home and worship it with all devotion and finally immerse on the 11th day. 

For all those who don’t know Ganesh Virsarjan occurs on the Anant Chaturdashi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. This year too, the Ganesh Visarjan will be celebrated today by everyone on 28 September 2023.

Ganesh Visarjan 2023: Puja Ritual

Here is the ritual that you will have to follow on the day of Ganesh Visarjan.

1. Wake up early in the morning and take a holy bath.
2. Invite relatives and friends for the Visarjan ceremony.

3. Perform puja by putting tilak and kumkum, and offer sweets like laddoo and modaks.

4. Decorate the Lord Ganesha idols with flowers and garlands.

5. Perform Ganesh aarti.

6. After the puja, devotees take the idol to the river along with things like coconut, incense sticks and flowers.

7. Grand possessions are carried out with family, friends relatives and others.

8. Devotees then dance and chant Ganpati Bappa Morya.

9. After reaching the river, the devotees will once again perform aarti/puja by lightning incense sticks, offer flowers, and sweets and break the coconut there.

10. Finally, immerse the idol in the river.
