Do you remember the last clash between England and New Zealand? Probably Yes. Well, it was a highly controversial, equally sensational and exciting match for cricket fans all over the world. Four teams India, Australia, New Zealand and England. Two semifinals were played between  Australia and England, India and New Zealand. Out of which England and New Zealand won the respective matches and qualified for the final knockout.

Before the final match, these two teams played a stage match on 3rd July 2019 where England won the match with 119 runs. England set up a score of 305 at the fall of 8 wickets in 50 overs. However, New Zealand slumped to just 186 with all the wickets down at the end of the 45th over.

After this win, England secured a place in the semi-final. Now let’s have a look at the final day. The final between New Zealand and England was scheduled for 14 July 2019. This event took place on the historic ground of the Lord’s in the host Nation i.e. England. 

New Zealand won the toss and decided to bat first. With the passage of time and the loss of 8 wickets, New Zealand put up a score of 241 in 50 overs. It was said to be a defendable score in the finals of the CWC Final. The chasing score in the match was 242.

England put up a great fight in their innings and scored the equal runs of 241 with a loss of 10 wickets. However, a controversial and debatable event took place in the final over of England’s inning. 

In the last 3 balls of the match, England need 9 runs to win. Ben Stoke was on strike and he hit it to the mid-wicket and ran for 2 runs. While running for the second run, he dived towards the crease and his bat deflected the ball thrown toward the stumps. The boat goes for a long boundary for four and England gets 6 runs in total by on-field empire Dharamsena. 

A lot of criticism was overthrown at this ball-overthrown decision. Well, the game was not over yet and the match was tied at the end. This resulted in the super over and England scored 15/0 in the super over and again New Zealand scored the same with a loss of 1 wicket. The super over was tied at 15/0 (England), and 15/1 (New Zealand).

England became the champions by a rule of boundary count for the results. Eventually, the number of boundaries from New Zealand was less than that from England, and they lost the game.
