As you know, last year our country celebrated its 77th Independence Day. Similarly, our school has also celebrated this day magnificently. I wanted to share the way we celebrated this patriotic day in our school. The day before the festival, we decorated the entire school with tricolour flags, balloons and ribbons. Our teachers told us about the significance of Independence Day and the sacrifices made by our freedom fighters. We also had a drawing competition on the theme ´Independent India´ in our school. I made a drawing showing the tricolour flag and got the third prize in the competition.  The event started with the flag-hosting ceremony, where the school Principal hosted the national flag and the entire school, standing tall, sang the national anthem. After this, there were cultural performances like singing, dancing, and skits based on the theme of Independence. As you very well know, I have been practising dancing for this event. I danced to the patriotic song ¨Ae Watan¨ and got a huge round of applause from the audience.  In the evening, the whole village gathered for the Independence Day celebration. Many people lit candles in the evening to mark the special day. It was an unforgettable Independence Day for me. I hope you also had a fun-filled Independence Day in your town school. I am writing this letter to share my experience with the Independence Day celebrations. Our town was decorated beautifully this year with the national flag, pinwheels and flower arrangements. The theme of this year’s Independence Day celebration was ‘Freedom in Mind and Spirit. To make the day more interesting we had a quiz and debate competition around the theme in the week before Independence Day. You would be happy to know that I won second prize in the quiz. On the morning of 15th August, we all gathered in our assembly ground for the flag hoisting ceremony. Our chief guest was the Mayor of the town. Some students gave wonderful speeches on freedom, equality and national integrity. I felt very inspired by hearing their voices. After this, we want the national anthem together. In the afternoon, we had a cultural programme. There were dances, plays, songs, and music performances by the joint efforts of students of all classes. My friends and I performed a play about how kids can work towards an Independent India. Everyone cheered loudly on our wonderful performance. This was followed by the distribution of prizes for all the competitions held during the week. After the cultural events, we all went to gaze at the beauty of the beautifully decorated school garden which was specially decorated for Independence Day night with lanterns and tricolour fountains. 12, Green Street Delhi 6th January 2025 Dear Ahmed, I hope you’re doing well. I’m so excited to share with you the grand celebration we had on Independence Day in our school. It was truly a day to remember, filled with various activities and joyful moments! The day started with a beautiful morning assembly where our principal, Mr. Verma, hoisted the national flag. We all stood at attention and sang the national anthem together. The sound of our voices filled the air with pride and unity. After that, the real celebration began! There were performances by students from different classes. Some sang patriotic songs, while others presented energetic dances wearing traditional outfits. I especially enjoyed a dance performed by my classmates on the song “Vande Mataram.” Next, we had a poetry recitation competition. The poems, all written by students, were about the bravery of our freedom fighters. My friend Rohan won first place for his heartfelt poem about Bhagat Singh. There was also a quiz on India’s freedom struggle, and I was thrilled when my team came second! The most inspiring part of the day was a speech by a guest speaker, an ex-serviceman, who shared his experiences and talked about the importance of serving the nation. It was followed by a short documentary on India’s journey to independence, which everyone watched with great interest. To make the event even more fun, we had a drawing and poster-making competition. The theme was “India of My Dreams.” Some students made incredible posters filled with creative ideas about a better and brighter India. Finally, the celebration ended with the distribution of sweets and snacks. Our teachers gave us small tricolor badges as souvenirs of the day. It was such an inspiring and fun-filled event that reminded us of the sacrifices made by our great leaders and how we must work hard to make our country proud.
