Dear Subhash,

Hope this letter finds you in good spirits and health. It’s been a while since we haven’t seen each other. I miss the times when we used to enjoy these kinds of festivities together, especially because Pongal is almost ahead. I thought of you right away when I told my mother this and she asked me to write a letter to your friend about your Pongal holiday plans.

I am excited to celebrate Pongal with my family and relatives. The celebration is much awaited for all of us and since this will last for four days, we all are excited because this will allow all of us to meet our distant relatives and cousins.

Pongal’s first day represents the passing of the old and the beginning of the new. Another name for this day is Bhogi. We all clean our house and decorate it with vibrant flowers and rangoli on this day. To burn old items, some individuals also light bonfires.

The Surya Pongal falls on the second day. We worship the Sun god and give him pongal on this day. I hope you recall that rice, milk, and jaggery are the ingredients of the sweet dish Pongal. On this day, we exchange gifts with our friends and family and don new clothes.

We refer to the third day as Mattu Pongal. Cattle, who assist us in farming, are revered and honored on this day. People paint their bodies, adorn them with bells, and arrange flowers. They also receive specially prepared dishes to eat. Thousands of people come together to watch the bull-taming sport known as Jallikattu, which makes this day even more unique. Observing this sport is incredibly adventurous.

The fourth day is referred to as Kannum Pongal. On this day people visit neighbors and relatives. Some also go for a family picnic to parks and enjoy rides and games. Do you remember that we used to fly kites on this day?

I wish I could relive the Pongal spirit and share this day with you. Please inform me about your intended visit to our native. Send my regards to your family and please write me back.

Regards,
Suraj

Dear Anjali,

I hope this letter finds you well and in great spirits. I have been away from my hometown for six months now, and I am missing everyone at the hostel. When I went to the market yesterday to get some goods, I realized that Pongal will be coming in a few days. I decided to write you a letter because I was feeling nostalgic and looked back to the times we used to spend together during the Pongal holidays.

The four days around the Pongal holidays are ideal for spending time with loved ones we don’t often get to see. These days give us the chance to mingle and enjoy the celebrations with one another.
I recall worshipping the Sun God, enjoying the delicious taste of Pongal, and adorning the cattle with vibrant flowers and colors.

I would love to meet you and share the Pongal spirit with you when I visit my hometown. We will also go for a kite flying and to the park where we used to go for a picnic in our old days.

See you soon.
Regards,
Niharika
