Summary of NCERT Class 7 English An Alien Hand Chapter 3: Golu Grows a Nose
Here is a summarised version of the NCERT Class 7 English An Alien Hand Chapter 3: Golu Grows a Nose, a story by Rudyard Kipling.
Long ago, elephants did not have trunks. Golu, a curious baby elephant with a bulgy nose, asked his animal relatives difficult questions, but none had answers. When he asked a mynah bird about crocodile dinners, she directed him to the Limpopo River. Thereafter, Golu started his journey to seek answers from the Limpopo River with a bunch of fruits.
On his way, Golu encountered a python and later found what he thought was a log on the riverbank. To his surprise, it was a winking crocodile. Golu asked about crocodile dinners, and the crocodile, pretending to be one, caught Golu’s nose. With the help of the python, Golu managed to free himself, but his nose had stretched.
After cooling his nose in the river, Golu discovered three advantages of his now elongated trunk: swatting a fly, eating grass, and protecting himself from the sun. Grateful for the python’s help, Golu decided to return to his family, armed with a newfound and useful trunk.
