About Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU)

He obtained his M.Phil and PhD degrees from JNU.

Venu Rajamony

Venu Rajamony, an Indian diplomat and historian, is a member of the Indian Foreign Service. On September 17, 2021, he took on the role of Officer on Special Duty, External Cooperation (holding the rank of Chief Secretary) in the Kerala Government. 

Additionally, he serves as a concurrent faculty member specializing in Diplomatic Practice at the Jindal Global Law School of O.P. Jindal Global University in Sonipat, Haryana. From 2017 to 2020, he served as the Ambassador of India to the Netherlands. He obtained his M.A. in International Studies from JNU. 

Nirmala Sitharaman

Nirmala Sitharaman, an Indian economist and politician is currently the 28th Minister of Finance. She is a member of the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament, and has represented Karnataka since 2016, previously representing Andhra Pradesh from 2014 to 2016. Sitharaman made history as India’s second female defence minister, holding the position from 2017 to 2019. 

Additionally, she became the country’s second female finance minister, following in the footsteps of Indira Gandhi, and the first woman to serve as a full-time minister in both of those important portfolios. She did her M.A. in economics from JNU.

Amitabh Kant, born on March 1, 1956, is an Indian bureaucrat who formerly held the position of the second chief executive officer at NITI Aayog, a government-based public policy think tank in India. He is a retired member of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), which is the primary civil service of the Indian government. He did his M.A. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). 

Abhay Kumar

Abhay Kumar, also known as Abhay K, is an Indian poet-diplomat born in 1980. Currently, he holds the position of deputy director general at the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR) in New Delhi. 

From 2019 to 2022, he served as India’s 21st ambassador to Madagascar and Comoros. Prior to that, he held various diplomatic roles in Russia, Nepal, and Brazil. Abhay Kumar has published several poetry collections, including Stray Poems, Monsoon, The Magic of Madagascar, and The Alphabets of Latin America. Palagummi Sainath

Palagummi Sainath is an Indian columnist and the author of the highly regarded book titled Everybody Loves a Good Drought. His writing extensively covers rural India, with a particular focus on poverty, structural inequities, caste discrimination, and farmers’ protests. 

In 2014, he established the People’s Archive of Rural India (PARI), an online platform dedicated to addressing social and economic inequality, rural issues, poverty, and the impact of globalization in India. Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee

Abhijit Vinayak Banerjee is an Indian-American economist who currently holds the position of Ford Foundation International Professor of Economics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

In 2019, Banerjee, along with Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer, was awarded the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences for their pioneering use of experiments in tackling global poverty. It is noteworthy that Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, who are married, became the sixth married couple to win a Nobel Prize together.
