What is SAC Full Form?

The SAC full form is Space Applications Centre. It is located in Ahmedabad and is spread across two campuses with multi-disciplinary activities. The core competencies of SAC are highly focused on the development of space-borne and air-borne instruments or payloads and other applications based on national development and societal benefits. All these applications of SAC are in diverse areas and primarily meet the communication, remote sensing needs and navigational needs of the country.

What are the Significant Applications of SAC?

The SAC has significantly contributed to the scientific and planetary missions of ISRO including:

• Chandrayaan-1
•  Mars Orbiter Mission

The government and private sector for DTH, VSAT, broadcasting, internet, telephones etc use the communication transponders developed at the Centre for Indian National Satellite (INSAT) and Geo Synchronous Satellite (GSAT) series of satellite

SAC’s Mian Engine and Stage Test Facility also designs and develops the optical and microwave sensors for the satellites, signal and image processing software and many other applications of the Earth Observation (EO) programme of ISRO.

The applications are in diverse areas including:

• Physical Oceanography

• Atmosphere

The SAC also conducts 9-month Postgraduate diploma courses for students from the Asia Pacific region. It is under the aegis of CSSTE-AP –  Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in satellite meteorology and communication.
