History of Raigad Fort
The fort was formerly named Fort of Rairi, which was built by Chandra Rao More of Jawali of the Maurya Empire in 1030 AD.
- Later, in 1656, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj recaptured the fort in 1656 and renamed the fort to Raigad.
- The coronation of the Shivaji Maharaj took place in Raigad fort.
- The main architect for the renovation of the fort was Hiroji Indulkar.
- Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was crowned as the king of the Maratha Empire at Raigad Fort in 1674, solidifying its place in history.
