Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Limited was established in 1937 as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Crompton Parkinson, by the name of Crompton Parkinson Works Limited. It was taken over by Kram Chand Thapar in 1947. The company was the result of the demerger of Crompton Greaves Limited when it separated the consumer goods business from the industrial systems and power segment in 2016. The announcement of the demerger was made in 2014 and the process was completed in 2016 which lead to the creation of Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals Limited and CG Power and Industrial Solutions.
The operations of Crompton are divided into segments – one is lighting related to products that entail LED and Non-LED products. The other division is the Electric consumer division (ECD) which consists of fans, pumps and appliances. The company has manufacturing plants at Baddi, Goa, Ahmednagar and Vadodara and one research and development centre at Vikhroli, which is located in the suburb of Mumbai.
