Wilmington University was founded in 1968 as Wilmington College by Dr Donald E. Ross, the president of the institution until 1977. Started with a charter class of 194 students in 1968 and currently serves more than 20,000 students. The institution officially became Wilmington University in 2007. Wilmington university is affiliated with the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) and the Delaware Association of Independent Universities and Colleges (DAICU and with the) NCAA Division II - Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference in sports. It ranks #299-391 among National Universities in the 2022 edition of Best Colleges.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The main campus in Wilmington Manor is a census-designated place that has classroom facilities. After an extensive renovation, The Pratt Student centre opened in 2013 replacing the former university gymnasium. Wilmington University offers more than 200 graduate and doctoral degrees. and certificate programs on its seven academic campuses in Delaware, New Jersey, and Maryland. It also has dozens of academic minors with specialised degree offerings. The university offers a wide range of disciplines to choose from  including Arts, Communicationsara and Marketing, Business Management and Adminsitration, Education, Finance, Health and Nursing, Human Services, Information Technology, Law, Public Policy, Criminal Justice and Security, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), across 5 academic colleges.

Wilmington University is a very famous university in the United States for international students. Further, in a survey, 91% of the graduates said that they will recommend WilmU to other students. The notable alumni names like   Anthony Allison, a professional soccer player, Paul Bechly, an American chemical engineer, Hugh T. Broomall, major general, United States Air Force Richard C. Cathcart, the former house majority leader, Delaware House of Representatives and Thomas P. Gordon, county executive, New Castle County, Delaware make the university more popular among the international students.

Wilmington University is very diverse when it comes to the ethnicity of the students. Last year the university enrolled 52.6% White, 21.6% African American, 10.2% Latino, 3.2% Two or More Races, 2.78% Asian, 0.521% American Indian, and 0.21% Pacific Islanders in both full-time and part-time. Students studying in the United States on a temporary basis are categorised as "Non-Resident Alien". Companies like Year-up and Amazon are education partners of Wilmington University that help in student placement. JP Morgan and Chase Co., Bank of America, the Walt Disney Company, Capital One, Citi, Concast and other organizations recruit graduates from Wilmington University.
