Established in 1997, Western Governors University (WGU) is an online university headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA. First proposed by Mike Leavitt, Former Governor of Utah, in 1995, Western Governors University was established by 19 state governors in 1997. All 19 governors committed $100,000 while establishment. Though the seed money was received from government sources, Western Governors University had to be established as a self-supporting private and nonprofit institution. Once the students and faculties increased, the university started attracting a lot of state and private funding and recognition from various councils. Today, Western Governors University has four colleges including College of Business, Teachers College, College of Information Technology and College of Health Professions. It offers 27 undergraduate and 36 postgraduate online programs. Not just this, it also offers online certification course in all colleges. Today, the headquarter of Western Governors University is situated in Utah but it has presence over 8 states including Ohio, Washington, Texas, Missouri, Tennessee, Nevada, North Carolina and Indiana in the USA. There are total 110,534 students enrolled in a fulltime online programs at Western Governors University with academic staff of more than 4,000 members. out of the total student population, approx. 81,000 students and 29,000 are enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs respectively. 63% of total student population are female and 37% of total student population are male and an average age of the students is 37 years.
